I'm getting bad scan results - troubleshooting

  • Keep your FlexScan3D projects locally. Things go weird when your project is stored in a networked folder.
  • I'm not getting any or partial scan results
    • Is the cut plane still active? Remove cut plane.
    • Is the Z-filter set correctly?
      • measure and re-set the Z-min value
      • measure and re-set the Z-max value
    • Turn on bounding box: this way it's easier to spot if a scan contains information or not.
  • Using the rotary table, my scan is scattered in a circular pattern
    • do the rotary table calibration
  • I'm getting glitch-like stripes instead of a clean scan
    • Is the object reflective? Use a matting spray
    • Is the object transparent? Use a matting spray
    • does the object scatter the light underneath it's surface? Use a matting spray
    • Try position the object a little closer or further away from the scanner
    • Change the image exposure a little (darker, brighter). Do this only inside the scanning software. Never do this on the projector itself.
  • Out-of-sync warning
    • increase pattern delay. Check the scan-images to see if each image has the right projected pattern on it.
  • 3D object rotates slowly and can't be stopped
    • stop “demo mode” in the contextual menu.

Special cases

  • scanning and processing takes long (capture time: ± sec, processing time: ±70 sec)
    • the bounding box is empty
    • system check is OK
    • making a scan to define the cut plane doesn't take abnormally long
    • Generate: “capture only” is also slow. Generating a mesh from the images doesn't work
    • the problem persists after restore defaults and reboot
    • The scan-images look good.
    • This problem was with FlexScan3D V3.3.5.8 (64bits)
    • A reinstall of the program fixed these problems
